Disney makes MAJOR changes to theme park early entry and Disney Genie +
We visited the Hollywood studios in early November and were completely disappointed with the experience. First, at 7:01 a.m., Slinky Dog was already sold out on the Lightning Lane passes and Rise of the Resistance was only available at 8:00 p.m. that night, despite Genie + posting availability at 2:00 p.m. We also paid for Runaway Railway and although it indicated availability at 11:45 am we could only book for 7:30 pm. Plus, all the extra Star Wars activities (like Savi and Olga’s) were well booked. In the Star Wars region there were so many people and it was very difficult to tell where anything was.
From our arrival at the park at 8:30 am until 11:45 am, we had only done one lap in total, and that was with our Lightning Lane selection.
All other wait lines were over 60 minutes (Rise of the Resistance wait was 3 hours when the park opened at 9 a.m.). We only knew about the 120 minute rule after our visit, and the cast asked us not to book our next pass until our tickets were scanned for the second time on the ride.
Of course, no booking times were exact throughout the day.
We spent our day walking around the park in the scorching sun only to find long waits and nothing to do to pass the time. There was no place to sit and cool off, and all the restaurants were full as well.
My kids were exhausted and disappointed, and waiting until 7-8 p.m. when our next Lightning Lane was available (booked early in the morning after our first ride) and our Railway and Rise of Resistance passes were available, was impossible. By 1 p.m. we had had enough.
Luckily, customer service took care of us and gave us a full refund. The park was not at full capacity on the day we visited and the crowds were “light” (from what we had been told it would be Thanksgiving week), and I couldn’t imagine what those were. guests have lived!
The additional 30 minutes of park hours should be available to resort guests year-round, not just during busy seasons. And Genie + needs an overhaul. Specific booking times should be posted instead of teasing customers with times earlier than what is actually available.
