It seems theme parks everywhere are experiencing an interesting phenomenon where “slow season” seems to be a thing of the past.

Whether you’re visiting a tourist destination like Walt Disney World Resort, or perhaps a more local park like Knott’s Berry Farm in California or Busch Gardens in Tamapa, it seems the amount of crowds that visited during what is generally considered a slower season has only increased. The Disney CEO just noted that the theme park just had its financially biggest second quarter, and it looks like the demand isn’t stopping. Crowds and wait times continue to rage during times of the year that would generally be considered much less busy.

After the holidays, many guests often take a break because they have just spent a lot of their money on Christmas. Other than that, after taking time off from work and school during vacations, taking a vacation right after is often not the desired choice. Due to school hours and holidays, we are often able to detect when tourist destinations will be busier. The summer months are often busy at any theme park as the children are out of school, as well as holidays such as March Break, Spring Break, Halloween, etc. This means that all intermediate moments are generally “slower”. Well, it seems that even at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, “low season” is no longer in effect.

A Reddit thread recently started discussing the current crowds at Six Flags Magic Mountain with hour-long waits.

Xsipkis said:

What makes the parks so crowded? I thought it was off season?
Over the past two weeks or so, I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about the crowds at some year-round parks. I think people have a right to complain, but it shocks me that the parks have the same level of crowds as in the summer?

Is there a special phenomenon or even happening that drives the crowds so crazy? For example, I went to Universal and Disney last July and the crowds were heavy, but manageable.

But I keep seeing people talking about these parks having posted 2-3 hour durations for almost every attraction, and my mind is completely blown.

What is going on?

What makes the parks so crowded? I thought it was off season? of the theme park

A good point, as frito11 pointed out, might be the desire to travel after the pandemic held so many people back for so long.

tiredness covid.

my perspective as a post covid park fan is only in california mostly at my home parks here in the bay area but they have all been much busier than they were before covid when they were open. Now that the seasonal parks around the state are closed, people who want to go to the parks are, I’m sure, flocking to the larger parks year-round, especially on weekends.

TheFigment seemed to agree, noting:

Request refused. All the holidays that have been postponed, often several times over the past two years, are finally happening.

laurencbrown88 compared the park to Disney, where they noted it was also incredibly busy.

I went to Hollywood Studios on a MONDAY this month and it was packed, felt like spring break. I don’t understand it either.

grandmarquis84 talked about Universal Orlando Resort, where they commented that the wait times weren’t too terrible. Interestingly enough, we recently visited Universal Hollywood where the wait times were non-existent.

Spending this week at Universal and although it gets busy the wait times aren’t that bad. Hagrid hit 90 minutes a few times and Flight of the Hippogriff can be long, but everything else stayed close to half an hour or less.

ImaginaryDisplay3 noted that there is a good chance that Park Guest boosts will continually increase.

It is true that part of it is just the pent up demand from covid, but the bigger problem is that visitor numbers have increased dramatically over the past 15 or so years without a substantial increase in capacity.

Disney in particular is way behind on adding capacity and really struggling to figure out how to deal with it. In the short to medium term, if they add a new route, they are actually increasing overall ridership more than they are reducing it, and the new route has to replace something (and therefore does not actually add overall capacity) .

They don’t have any other good short-term options; they could double the prices and it probably wouldn’t change attendance much. This seems like a good thing for them, but it means the crowds will continue to be out of control no matter what.

Universal is tackling this problem in the most efficient way possible, by simply building a massive new park.

Six Flags Magic Mountain now has a Flash Pass, much like Disney Genie‘s Lightning Lane pay-per-ride options.

Much like Disney Genie, guests can book the passes on their phone and must arrive at the attraction at their return time. Considering the cost can be as high as $25.00 per person per ride, Six Flags has crossed Disneyland’s threshold of $20.00 per ride, which we can see with Rise of the Resistance right now. It seems that the rising costs implemented at Disney have now influenced Six Flags. Since the theme park has been closed for over a year, it looks like they’re jumping on the Disney bandwagon to get their money back.

One-way Flash Pass prices range from $5 to $25 per person and vary per trip per day. Twisted Colossus and West Coast Racers were priced at $12 per person each way while Full Throttle and Goliath were $14 on Martin Luther King Jr. National Day on Monday, January 17. The new Skip-the-Line Flash Pass program will be available at Magic Mountain for the foreseeable future, according to Six Flags officials.

The Walt Disney Company has been known in the past for providing magic not only to its Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort Guests, but also to its Cast Members.

However, that sentiment hasn’t necessarily been the case over the past couple of years, particularly as many Disney fans have accused the company of only looking at the bottom line and many have also complained about the alleged unfair treatment of Cast Members. The unveiling of Disney Genie and Lightning Lane was received with less than stellar feedback and many even said they felt the Disney parks had “lost their magic”.

There is currently a strong movement among Disney shareholders to remove current Disney CEO Bob Chapek from his position, and many Disney fans have expressed a desire for former CEO and current Chairman Bob Iger to return to the post instead of Chapek. Iger, however, dismissed rumors that he might be interested in taking over the job and replacing Bob Chapek.

Amid the backlash Disney is facing, Iger recently posted on Twitter praising the work of theme park best practices, but it wasn’t at Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort. It was at Dolly Parton’s Dollywood.

It’s a good step forward @DollyPartonis part! @Disney did it a few years ago and it was one of the best things we’ve ever done. Better education = better opportunities.

A Washington Post report found that Dollywood’s parent company, Herschend Enterprises, would pay tuition for its 11,000 employees, including full-time, part-time and seasonal staff.

The report reads:

Dollywood will pay 100% of tuition, fees, and books for employees pursuing higher education. Beginning Feb. 24, all 11,000 seasonal, part-time, and full-time employees at Herschend’s 25 U.S. attractions, including Dollywood, will be able to enroll in the GROW U pilot program.

The initiative allows employees to enroll from day one in diploma, degree and certificate programs offered by 30 learning partners. Subjects offered in the higher education curriculum include business administration and leadership, finance, marketing, technology, and culinary studies. The company has also pledged to provide partial funding, or up to $5,250 per year, for an additional 150 programs in areas such as engineering, human resources, hospitality and artistic design.

Dollywood

In addition to Dollywood Park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the GROW U program also applies to attractions such as Pink Adventure Tours in Tennessee, Arizona and Nevada; Silver Dollar City in Missouri; and Adventure Aquarium in New Jersey.

Many social media users commented on Iger’s posting campaign to get Disney cast members to see raises. Currently, Disney’s minimum wage is set at $15.00 per hour.

Dollywood Park is currently closed for the winter and is scheduled to reopen on Friday March 11 with a preview day for pass holders.

What are your thoughts on Dollywood paying tuition for its employees and the current backlash Disney seems to be facing?

Genie+ appears to have granted Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s wish, as the paid skip-the-line service led Disney’s U.S. theme parks to a record quarter.

In the quarter ending January 1, 2022, Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort reported revenue of $4.8 billion and operating income of $1.55 billion. In contrast, the same quarter in 2021 saw only $1.48 billion in revenue and $798 million in operating loss, as Disneyland was still closed during that time.

While die-hard Disney Parks fans have complained loudly and openly about the new Genie+ and Lightning Lane services, the finances paint a much rosier picture. Customer spending increased 40% from pre-pandemic levels, without services being available for the entire quarter. Genie+ launched at Disney World on October 19 and at Disneyland on December 8.

“While we anticipated these products would be popular, we were blown away by the reception during the quarter, when more than a third of National Park customers purchased Genie+, Lightning Lane or both,” Chapek said, adding that during the busiest holiday season, Genie+ usage exceeded 50%.

The global Parks, Experiences and Products division, which Chapek led before replacing Bob Iger as CEO in 2020, posted its second-best quarter ever with $7.2 billion in revenue.

Other positives from the first quarter, including the beating of financial analysts’ forecasts for overall revenue and subscriber growth on Disney+, could provide some relief to Chapek.

While headlines circulated this week suggesting a budding shareholder revolt against Chapek’s re-election as CEO at Disney’s annual meeting on March 8, the outrage was limited to anonymous fans on a forum of Disney Parks on Reddit. Nevertheless, he has been promoted as a legitimate threat by Disney-centric blogs such as WDW News Today (which has repeatedly described itself as “in war” with Disney) and was even picked up by national outlets.

Chapek headlined the upcoming attractions during the earnings call, mentioning the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot this summer and the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience debuting March 1. groundbreaking premium experience,” there have been reports of large number of cancellations while a negative response to previews of the ultra-expensive hotel.

January 30, 2022, 4:38 PM · Welcome to Theme Park of the Week, where every Sunday we highlight one of the best theme parks in the world. This week we start with the most visited park in the world – the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World.

The Magic Kingdom opened its doors to guests on October 1, 1971, with an official dedication on October 25 of the same year. The first of what are now four theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort, the Magic Kingdom is still called “Disney World” by many of its visitors. Or, by some, just “Disney”.

Visiting Disney has become a rite of passage for many families in the United States and around the world. As such, people tend to come here for the whole package more than to experience specific attractions. Still, readers of Theme Park Insider voted Haunted Mansion in Liberty Square park as the top Magic Kingdom attraction last year, followed by Tomorrowland’s Space Mountain indoor roller coaster and the one-day-to-be-renamed Splash Mountain waterslide in Frontierland.

Haunted house
Haunted Mansion is home to “999 haunts,” but there’s always room for 1,000.

For the rest of our top 10 park attractions, please see our guide to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

This page includes our tips for when to visit Walt Disney World as well as our strategy for planning a visit to the parks. If you have any suggestions for additions or changes to these tips, please let us know in the comments below.

As the most visited theme park in the world, there really isn’t an “off season” anymore for visitors hoping for small crowds. But you can minimize your wait times inside the park by choosing to visit on weekdays during the school year, avoiding holiday weeks and runDisney weekends. Mid-August is good for relatively smaller crowds, but it’s prime hurricane season in Florida. You can usually find better weather between the end of Presidents Day week in late February and the start of Spring Break in March.

Like all Walt Disney World theme parks, Magic Kingdom requires advance reservations to visit. If you wish to eat at a table-service restaurant, such as our Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper Canteen, Be Our Guest, or Cinderella’s Royal Table inside the castle, you will need to make reservations through the Disney website 60 days to advance, around 5:45 a.m. Eastern Time.

The big question you’ll need to answer when you visit is whether you should buy one of Disney’s new paid line-skipping services. You can read more about them in our articles, How to Use Disney Genie Plus and How to Use Disney’s Individual Lightning Lane.

Guests at the on-site Walt Disney World hotel enter all four parks 30 minutes earlier each day, so there’s no longer a way to “drop” the park into an empty queue if you’re not staying. not in a Disney hotel. But you can always plan your way around the park to minimize your wait times. Look at the free Disney Genie tool in Disney’s official My Disney Experience app before your visit to get an idea of park wait times. Please share your favorite Magic Kingdom route strategy with us in the comments.

Magic Kingdom is bringing back some of its popular entertainment later this year, including the daily Festival of Fantasy parade. So no matter where you go in the park or when you visit it, you’re likely to find something delightful to entertain you and your family. That’s why Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has become a beloved vacation destination for so many fans around the world.

Whether you’re a fan of seeing PDA at a theme park or not, a US park Six Flags had tried to put a stop to it all after complaints surfaced of an LGBTQ+ couple kissing online.

Whether you’re at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland, or any other theme park, guests generally don’t have to restrict themselves from kissing their partners. Of course, behaving appropriately when it comes to PDA is key in these instances, but often guests understand the level of affection that’s allowed to be publicly displayed without causing too much attention or a scene. Well, what would you do if someone told you that you weren’t allowed to show affection at all?

PA News recently announced that “Six Flags amusement park in Mexico City has announced it is dropping a ban on ‘affectionate behavior’ after complaints about two gay friends stepping out of a line on a kissing ride” . It appears this ban was put in place after what appeared to be a gay couple were seen kissing for a ride. Security was noted to surround the couple, but they were not kicked out of the park. The publication noted that there were other heterosexual couples doing the same in the area, but they were not reprimanded for their actions. He did not indicate that the couple in question were behaving inappropriately or showing an indecent amount of PDA. It seems that only kisses were exchanged.

After the ban was put in place, gay rights activists called for a “kissathon” at the park. Following the outrage, Six Flags Mexico decided to reverse its policy.

“In an effort to maintain a family atmosphere, Six Flags had a policy of discouraging visitors from becoming overly affectionate. However, based on feedback from our visitors, we have decided that a policy referring to loving behavior is not necessary, and have eliminated it.

Because the ‘affection ban’ was only put in place after a gay couple’s PDA was the subject of a complaint, the ban seemed very targeted to many, c This is why the “kissathon” was organised. Even though the ban would have been for all couples, regardless of their sexual orientation, it seems that the origin of the ban left guests feeling understandably marginalized and excluded. Fortunately, Six Flags was able to realize the result of its actions and find a way to fix it so that all guests can once again feel welcome at Six Flags Mexico.

As we mentioned at the top of the article, although affection is allowed in theme parks, visitors should always recognize that they are in a public place with children nearby. That being said, the level of affection displayed should be kept at an appropriate level. Failure to do so could result in any guest being kicked out of Six Flags or any other park, as theme parks are based on private property and may set their own rules and regulations.

In California, Six Flags Magic Mountain recently implemented some changes. The theme park is adding a new Flash Pass, which is a pay-per-ride system that will require visitors to pay an additional fee on top of the ticket price to skip the line for certain attractions.

The new One-Way Skip-the-Line Flash Pass option is available at Magic Mountain on select days for West Coast Racers, Twisted Colossus, Full Throttle and Goliath.

One-way Flash Pass prices range from $5 to $25 per person and vary per trip per day. Twisted Colossus and West Coast Racers were priced at $12 per person each way while Full Throttle and Goliath were $14 on Martin Luther King Jr. National Day on Monday, January 17. The new Flash Pass Skip-the-Line program will be available at Magic Mountain for the foreseeable future, according to Six Flags officials.

This change was put in place shortly after Disneyland Resort introduced Disney Genie, which offers a Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane option for guests to do the same. As Disney normalizes this pay-per-ride system, we can now see other theme parks starting to follow suit.

Disney Genie was recently added to the My Disney Experience app, which is a new way for Guests to plan their day. Disney Genie is for those unsure of what to do at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios and offers a variety of specially tailored options. In addition to that, Disney Genie also has a Disney Genie+ feature. For $15.00 per day per guest, you can skip the long line by making a Lightning Lane reservation (new FastPass) and returning at that time.

ANAHEIM, CA – At Disneyland you can find Main Street, USA, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, and maybe soon a Virtualland.

What would you like to know

  • On December 28, the US Patent Office granted The Walt Disney Co. a patent to create a virtual world simulator in a real location.
  • The patent could mean the creation of a virtual theme park or similar type of immersive digital experience inside a Disney theme park or Disney property.
  • Disney has over 300 patents
  • The patent also states that Disney plans to create a portable device like a flashlight that can light up a surface to view animated objects.

Imagine the next time you walk into Disneyland and see a virtual Mickey Mouse and Pluto playing fetch in Toontown. Perhaps you can see the enchanted rose from “Beauty in the Beast” from all angles hovering in front of you or watch Walt Disney waving to the crowd from his second-floor apartment above the Town Square fire station.

Disney plans to create a virtual reality space where people interact in a digitally simulated environment.

On December 28, the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted The Walt Disney Co. a patent to create what Disney describes as a virtual world simulator in a real location. The patent could mean creating a virtual experience inside a Disney theme park or Disney property.

“They want to turn a real-world location into a virtual world simulation,” said John DeStefano, patent and technology technical advisor at Founders Legal. The Atlanta-based business law firm specializes in intellectual property and represents leading technology companies.

Founders Legal does not represent Disney in the patent. DeStefano and patent attorney Yuri Eliezer studied the recently approved Disney patent.

Disney officials did not return a request for comment from Spectrum News at the time of publication.

Eliezer said Disney’s new patent sets the company in motion in creating its own metaverse.

“A lot of companies are heading into the metaverse,” said Eliezer, partner and patent attorney at Founders Legal. “There is a growing ecosystem and a patent grab. Everyone is trying to get their own share of this metaverse. “

It’s no surprise that Disney has joined the ranks of Google, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft, among many other tech companies, to jump on the so-called metaverse.

The metaverse is defined as a digital ecosystem designed to simulate our real world environment, said Yuri Eliezer, partner and patent attorney at Founders Legal.

“It is not just a graphical representation of the world in a virtual environment, but the ability to interact and exchange digital assets in a virtual environment,” Eliezer said.

The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the use of this technology. Disney filed for the patent in July 2020.

With most people working from home and telecommuting, “we are now more virtually connected than ever before,” Eliezer said, adding that we can still be productive when virtual.

“Now we are creating a virtual ecosystem for living, working and playing,” Eliezer said.

Disney is no stranger to incorporating new technologies into its theme parks. One of Walt Disney’s most famous lines is that Disneyland would never be completed as long as there is imagination in the world.

Disney, which created the first Audio-Animatronics in the 1960s, and trackless rides, has more than 300 patents.

At Disneyland, one of their old nighttime fireworks displays featured projection mapping technology. As the fireworks went off above, Disney projected moving images across the surface of Sleeping Beauty’s castle, buildings along Main Street, USA, and even it’s a small world.

Disney changed and technologically adapted its parks during the pandemic by adding mobile controls and a new improved agenda using artificial intelligence called Disney Genie. The Disney Genie + has a augmented reality component also.

While the MagicBand isn’t new, especially to Walt Disney World, wearable technology that lets visitors sync their theme park tickets, their room key, and more is coming to Disneyland.

For this recent patent, Disney plans to go further and create a fully immersive experience in its theme parks.

According to the patent, Disney plans to create a virtual world simulator, perhaps inside a room or different parts of the park, that includes a hardware processor, a tracking system, and “a portable device configured to be used by a user in the real world place and communicatively coupled to the computing platform. “

Currently, most projectors project a moving or visual image onto a two-dimensional surface. It is the image that most people see regardless of different points of view.

Disney’s patent will use multiple projectors to allow one or more users to experience a virtual world through virtual effects applied to a three-dimensional object inside the room.

“They will first map the environment, track users in the environment and project the corresponding virtual simulation in the real place of the real world,” he said.

One possibility, DeStefano said, is to imagine a room with multiple projectors, so that as a visitor moves through the room, the projector projects onto physical objects different virtual or animated things around it. ‘them.

In many ways, the projected images would appear like a hologram.

Think of the enchanted rose in “Beauty and the Beast,” he said.

Disney would just need to place a plastic cylinder inside a room with this invention and let the spotlight do all the work to make it look like an enchanted rose.

The patent also states that Disney plans to create a portable device to display the virtual image rather than simply installing projectors around a room.

“It can be a type I Spy game where someone hold a portable device like a flashlight, and as they shine it on an element in the room, something will be animated in it, ”DeStefano said.

Users will not see a virtual version of themselves in the room. However, all the space around them will be virtual.

The patent is different from augmented reality, where computer-generated images appear through a device.

“What’s going on here is actually a showing,” DeStefano said. “Rather than looking through a phone screen or headset, Disney has developed a system almost similar to a movie projector to project onto a real surface what humans see on a screen. It’s more of an experience of the world. real than looking at it through a phone. “

And there is no need for a virtual reality headset, augmented reality glasses, or those kinds of glasses.

These are lonely experiences. Disney’s invention would allow multiple users to share the same experience simultaneously.

The possibilities of this new technology are endless.

DeStefano said the projectors could be installed in a dark amusement ride room, which people enjoy when they are in line or at various locations in Disneyland, Downtown Disney or the Disney theme parks at Walt Disney World.

Eliezer said Disney would most likely release its intellectual property in the form of projected virtual images. And it looks like Disney is stepping up the development of this technology.

Usually, it takes almost two years for someone to patent something in the United States Patent Office.

Disney accelerated this deposit and received it within six months. They want to be leaders in this space and this technology.

“That probably means it’s a short-term rollout for them or it’s a licensing game,” Eliezer said. “Disney’s goal in getting this patent… Disney thinks others are going to enter this space. They want to make sure they get that patent first.”
