You can now download the first big Windows 11 update

There are plenty of goodies in Windows 11’s first big update, and you can try them all out for yourself right now.

Windows 11 is still rolling out globally, and Microsoft is already preparing it for its first big update. The tech giant has released a huge set of new features and operating system tweaks, and insiders can get their hands on them right now.

What’s in the first major Windows 11 update?

Microsoft detailed the update on the Windows Experience blog, which you can download now from the Insider program. The update will feature both newcomers to the operating system and a fresh coat of paint for its older apps.

First, the new. The taskbar gets a handful of great additions with this update. When you’re in a Teams call, you can mute and unmute via a microphone icon in the taskbar. You can also share active windows with your call with just one click.

On the left of the taskbar, you’ll find a brand new weather app that will keep you up to date with what’s going on outside. And if you’re a fan of multiple monitors, the clock will finally show up on the taskbar on every monitor, not just your primary monitor.

As with the old one, this update will introduce the new Media Player and Notepad apps. We’ve covered this update before, but with this new Insider build, you can try them out yourself and see how Microsoft brought these apps into the current day.

Microsoft’s first big update for Windows 11 shows promise

This update should get a warm welcome from Windows 11 users. Not only does it bring new handy features and a revamped look, but it also takes time to get rid of some annoyances people had with the new operating system.

And Microsoft needs to make sure this big update isn’t the last for some time. Right now, he has to convince a world comfortable with Windows 10 that the update is worth it. Microsoft is already on the back foot with Windows 11’s high system requirements and questionable gaming performance, so it needs to do all it can to get back into people’s good books.

A healthy start for Windows 11

With Microsoft rolling out party poppers for Windows 11’s first big update, there’s plenty to celebrate. You can try the update today on the Insider Channel; let’s just hope the Redmond giant can keep the momentum going.
